CoverGirl 50th Anniversary

27 Jun

CoverGirl is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with lots of prizes and samples.  I heard about this through BzzAgent when they sent me a package containing two CG Natureluxe products (reviews coming soon).  I’ve never been a huge fan of CoverGirl in the past; the only product that ever really impressed me was the Lash Blast mascara.  Their foundations were, without fail, always too dark for my pale skin or made me break out.  However, there seems to be a shift happening in the company, so they’re worth keeping an eye on.  Samples of their new products can be won from their Facebook page (linked above).  If you win anything, let me know how you like it!

You’ll probably receive a Gloss Balm from the BzzAgent package. The Gloss Balms are AWESOME. I own five of them currently. Super casual, add just enough color, so great. I swatched a few at my blog if you like the one you receive and want to see how some of the other colors go on!

I got Grenache in my package and am wearing it now. I love your swatches! (And your EOTD’s are lovely! I have to work on my eye photography; I never get it right.)

I have to admit, CoverGirl would need to do a lot to impress me. I’ve never been a huge fan of their products, but I wore their foundations and powders as a teenager since it’s what my mother used for years. But between poor shade selection (always WAY too orange–that didn’t seem to bother me at 13) and their animal testing policies, I can’t bring myself to support them. They’d have to seriously up their quality AND issue a pretty big statement about new-found cruelty-free policies for me to get on board. But hey! 50 years! They’ve gotta be doing something right!

I have to agree. CoverGirl’s quality has been so bad for me in the past (major zits), and it really pisses me off that there is animal testing in this day and age, especially for formulations that aren’t in any way new. Looking at the ingredients list for the natureluxe foundation, I’m not very impressed. It looks like they slapped some jojoba oil and fruit extract in another blah foundation. I’ll have to test it to be sure, but just reading the list makes me feel another huge pimple coming on.
