Review: Skinfood Milk Shake Point Make-up Remover

27 Jun

I really like the premise of Korean company Skinfood.  They believe that natural extracts from plants, fruits, vegetables, and herbs are as good for our skin as they are for the rest of our body.  They have a massive product catalog, which covers just about any personal care product one could want, as well as cosmetics.  In addition to  great products and an interesting philosophy, Skinfood is inexpensive.  And that, dear readers, is my trifecta of awesome.

I became interested in Skinfood Milk Shake Point Make-up Remover when I was searching for a product that would remove Japanese mascara, which wears like steel.  Trying to remove it with an American makeup remover is like trying to wash away tar with water.  I was already familiar with other Skinfood products, and when I saw that this is a point makeup remover, not just an eye makeup remover, I purchased it with lightning speed.  (Asian cosmetics fall into two categories, base and point.  Base makeup is foundations, BB creams, powders, concealers, etc.  Point makeup is anything for eyes, lips, and cheeks.)

Milk Shake is a two-layer remover, which means it must be shaken before use.  The white and blue layers combine to create a milky colored liquid which smells vaguely of “coconut” (think Hawaiian Tropics products from the 80′s).  The remover is thin, but is not greasy or oily feeling on the skin, and does not sting my eyes or cloud my vision.  I moisten a cotton round with a bit of the product and place it against my closed eye for a few seconds before wiping gently.  This removes the majority of my mascara and all of my eyeliner and shadow.  A second swipe takes care of the remaining mascara, but honestly I rarely bother.  I follow up my eye makeup removal with cleansing oil to remover my base makeup and that takes care of the last bit of mascara.  Yes, I’m lazy.  I delude myself by calling it “efficient”.

In addition to removing eye makeup with ease, Milk Shake takes care of lipstick stains like a pro.  I’ve used other eye-and-lip removers but they usually leave an oily feel on my lips.  Milk Shake leaves my lips feeling moisturized but not greasy, and does not leave behind a bad taste.  I have been extremely pleased with Skinfood Milk Shake Point Make-up Remover and can’t find a bad thing to say about it.  I especially like that it, like all Asian products, is stamped with the date of manufacture to ensure the product isn’t old or expired.  I will be ordering Milk Shake again once I run out.

I ordered this product from Ebay seller rubyruby76 for less than $13, which included shipping from Korea.
