Review: Skinfood Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream

22 Jul

Korean brand Skinfood rocks my world.  Their products are good, and they are inexpensive, even with the third-party seller markup.  They’re not available in the U.S. except through online retailers and EBay, but even with the markup, Skinfood costs about the same as drugstore products with much better performance.

I am currently loving Skinfood Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream in #1.  My dark circles have long annoyed me, being visible even when I’m well-rested, and impossible to cover up with my usual concealers.  So much has been said about salmon colored concealers (like Eve Pearl) that I was curious to try one, when this gem caught my eye.  It turns out that “salmon”, in this case, refers to the presence of salmon oil in the product rather than the color, although it definitely has an orange hue to it which makes it very effective for covering those pesky blue circle.  The deciding factor was the price- at only $10.00, it was worth a shot.

I purchased on EBay from seller ideaseller_kr, whom I have used before and highly recommend.  My concealer arrived quickly.  Shipping from Korea is very fast compared to other Asian countries, and I often get mail from Korea faster than I do mail from the West Coast.  As usual, it was packaged carefully and arrived in impeccable condition.  The first thing I noticed about the product is that it is unscented.  Part of me wondered if there would be any sort of “fishy” scent, but there is none.  It also looks more orange than it does in photographs.  The texture is thick and creamy, and while I realized right away that it would cover dark circles with no problem, I wondered if it would look orange on my skin.  I shouldn’t have worried; the orange blends nicely into the skin and the result is a bright, but not apparent, undereye area.

The creamy texture could have been a concern, as a lot of creamy products tend to migrate into the crease I have under my eyes, but the concealer stayed put with a light dusting of powder.  Skinfood also makes a companion product, a salmon powder, but I found that the concealer alone is enough to camouflage my dark circles.  I have been wearing this concealer religiously since it arrived- check the FOTD’s- and so little is needed that this pot will last for many years.

Skinfood Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream comes in two shades.  #1 is the lighter of the two.  Continue on to see the product shots.

Edited to add requested “before” and “after” pictures (taken in my bathroom so the light is wonky and yellow):

Before pictures, totally bare faced, as evidenced by the Very Red Zit.

The eye on the right (my left eye) with concealer.

Both eyes with concealer applied.  Foundation covers the slight orange tinge, please see my recent FOTD’s for the finished look.

I definitely want an affordable option to the Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer, and this might be it. I will be checking out the seller you recommended. :-)

I don’t know how comparable this is to Eve Pearl- I’ve been trying to get EP on sale because that price is outrageous. But the orange does act like a color corrector.

I would LOVE to see a before and after on the under eye area. I currently use the Pixi peach corrector, but the price makes my wallet cry, haha.

I’ll try to do that tomorrow. Do you want the after to be with foundation too or just the concealer alone?

Just the concealer if that’s ok :)

I took the pictures tonight in my bathroom- it’s supposed to rain tomorrow so no natural light for a few days. Check the edited review for the new pictures.

How long did it take for this to arrive? I been looking at this item with the same seller on eBay and it says 3-5 weeks !! yikes. I dont know if I have patience for that long.

I don’t think it took that long, maybe 2 weeks? They give a longer estimate because it’s coming from overseas, so there can theoretically be delays. I can say I’ve never had to wait that long.

awesome.. I’m def making an order today then! I been hearing about skinfood just recently and really interested in this concealer. I have major racoon eyes and die for any fantastic dark circle corrector/concealers. Currently I am using bobbi browns corrector but I see great reviews on this and so affordable. Have you tried any other items from the skin food line that you might recommend?

I love their makeup remover (Milk Shake Point Remover) and Herb Salad Cream. Basically, everything of theirs I have tried, I like, although the BB creams were a bit dark for me.
